PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Interview researchers/faculty, write and place stories with regional/national/
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Understand complicated scientific discoveries at the basic science level and interact regularly with highly accomplished researchers and faculty.
- Translate complex scientific concepts into compelling and well-written press releases, media pitches, etc. that are understandable to audiences while preserving accuracy and context.
- Conduct proactive outreach to scientific media and serve as liaison for news reporters/crews while on campus.
- Maintain and establish relationships with top-tier scientific media at regional/national/
- Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the University and Hospital.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES needed in addition to Essential Functions:
- Ability to manage multiple projects on tight deadlines.
- Ability to proactively seek out information on scientific discoveries and work independently to translate into news items.
- Solid understanding of healthcare environment and its intersection with science.
- Able to provide constructive guidance to support staff to achieve goals.
- Strong communication and interprofessional skills.
- Experienced with Video Monitoring Service, Burrelle's, Vocus and other databases.
- Working knowledge of social media platforms.
- Ability to work with highly sensitive information while maintaining patient confidentiality.
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in liberal arts or communications required. Excellent writing skills required. Master's or master's level preparation desirable.

Physical Demands of the Position: Traditional office environment, with much time spent at the computer and on the phone. Ability to travel across campus for meetings and interviews.
The salary range for this position is $50,000s – $ 63,000s.
