DC Trek Survey

Dear CNSPY Members,

Following the successful panel on “Working for the Federal Government: Scientific Careers in Defense”, the Career Network for Science PhDs at Yale (CNSPY) is excited to announce a unique networking opportunity sponsored by Dr. Wendy Hall from the US Department of Homeland Security. Selected participants will visit Washington D.C. where Dr. Hall will host and pilot them through:

- individual or paired networking sessions with science PhDs working for the government, to get a better understanding of jobs for scientists in policy.
- a policy debate on a relevant issue that we will prepare in advance for, under the guidance of Dr. Hall.
- a seminar/workshop on understanding policy briefs and meetings.
- and if we are very fortunate, a chance to sit in on a policy meeting at the White House.

Organizing this highly immersive opportunity to experience science policy at work, is a labor, time and fund-intensive endeavor and therefore, will be undertaken only if responses to this survey indicate a reasonable level of interest. If you would like to take advantage of this exceptional opportunity, please fill out this survey by October 6th: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/K69J2NF . Application forms and other information will be emailed directly to interested candidates.

Thank you.

Site Visit to Novartis, Cambridge

CNSPY is pleased to announce an opportunity for Yale graduate students to visit Novartis, Cambridge on October 8th from 1:30-3:45pm.  During this visit, students will be given an overview of the Novartis Institute for BioMedical Research, a tour of the facility, a talk from human resources, and the opportunity for dialogue with post-doctoral fellows. This is a great opportunity to find out what it is like to work for a pharmaceutical company such as Novartis.

The tour is tailored for a co-visit of graduate students from Yale and Brown University. It is important to note that this visit is NOT a recruitment event and is for educational purposes only. We have 10 available spots and you will be responsible for your transportation to and from the facility. If you are interested in attending, please fill out the brief application by Sunday, September 29th. Selected participants will be notified by Tuesday, October 1st, including instructions on how to get there, where to park, what to expect, etc.

Please email your application to administrator@careernetworkforsciencephds.org. Include your name, your department affiliation, and a 250 word description of how you envision benefitting from attendance. Use "Novartis Visit" in your subject line.
